Green tripe is not the sweetest smelling ingredient to work with, but it contains taurine which is good for your pet’s heart, muscles and helps to prevent liver disease.
Makes: 80 small balls
Preparation Time: 40mins
Ingredient List:
· 1¼ cups corn meal
· ¾ cup whole wheat flour
· 2 teaspoons dried parsley
· 1 teaspoon dried dill
· ¾ cup water
· ¼ cup green tripe
· 1 egg (lightly beaten)
Directions:
1. Preheat the main oven to 350°F.
2. In a medium sized bowl, whisk together the corn meal, wheat flour, dried parsley and dill. Using a second, smaller bowl combine the water with the tripe and lightly beaten egg.
3. Make a small well in the middle of the cornmeal mixture. Pour the tripe mixture into the well. Stir to combine. The combined mixture will be reasonably thick.
4. Lightly mist a baking tray with cooking spray.
5. Using a teaspoon, scoop out a spoonful of mixture. Roll the mixture into a small ball and arrange on the baking tray. Repeat until all the mixture has been used. You should have around 70-80 balls. Cook in the preheated oven for around 25-30 minutes. Allow to cool.
*You can either keep the tripe treats for up to 14 days in the refrigerator or up to 6 months in the freezer.
